The Maltby residence - this one is from our archives of older jobs. An architect designed split level pole house with the best possible views overlooking Copacabana Beach and Copacabana valley on the Central Coast. This one is quite spectacular by any measure. The quality of some of the images in our slide show here-under is a little disappointing, but it gives you a really good representation of the building process from start to finish.

The block of land itself wasn't too bad by pole house standards. A 20 degree slope running down the hill with not too many geotechnical issues. Easy! We brought in the excavator and drilled our poles down to a consistent solid rock foundation at around 1.5 metres depth. Once we had our poles concreted into position we were able to start construction of the split level floor platforms and then wall & roof framing. All of our structures are generally cut on site rather than pre-assembled, particularly when constructing complicated builds like this one. |
The architectural design by Environa Design Studio was quite involved, incorporating several split level floor platforms, a mixture of external cladding materials & profiles, and contemporary internal finishes including high vaulted, curved ceilings to the main living areas. (Pre-commencement discussion with our gun carpentry crew.. "Guys, can we can do high vaulted, curved ceilings in a pole house structure?"... "Yep, of course we can... Yep. Yep, pretty sure we can... Should be able to... We can give it a shot...")
The architect was commissioned to personally supervise the build from start to finish and we found him very good to work with all the way through the construction process. All of our dealings with the owners were an absolute pleasure, and they conveyed their satisfaction of the end result as "a breathtaking success!"
All in all a very pleasing result for all concerned, and another special project completed by the BuildFlex crew.

Testimonial by Richard Maltby:
"To whom it may concern.
A little while ago my wife and I contracted Wayne Wheeler to build a house for us at Copacabana. The house was an architect designed, split level pole home featuring interior curved ceilings, exposed polished timber floors and somewhat radical external finishes and design. The construction was supervised by the Architect, Environa Design Studio.
We were very pleased with Wayne's accomplishment of this challenging project, and with his professional approach towards ourselves and the Architect in overcoming minor problems as they arose.
We can recommend Wayne as a Builder with high standards, and we wish him well in the future.
